I'm having some issues with my all my cars pertaining the knuckle couplers. It seems to me that 98% of all my post war and modern day cars in VG to Mint Condition comes from the factory already broken.

Everytime I place a car on the tracks I get the next one ready for the 2nd car I always open the couplers and when they meet both cars lock themselves out. After several attempts I even tried again with the couplers open, but now they don't close together and with force I even seen them together only to come apart as the train begins to move.

So now I have to lift one end of the car just so I can connect it to the other end of the car. That's not how the real ones work. What is the point of having operating couplers if they don't work at all.

I've even seen some of my club members with premium cars holding one end up to place it on the other end. Please can anybody help me with this major problem am I doing something wrong or is this just CRAP!!!

My opinion is I think every car just like the passenger cars should have fixed solid couplers so that way you can't possibly lose a car while it's running. Please let me know what you think.

What I see as the problem is that they were stored or got hot sitting upright and the metal release thing is heavy enough to dislocate the locking pin.   I bought 57 cars from my neighbor.  most were stored on their side and work fine.   Two where stored upright and that disconnect "button " has sagged and they will not stay closed.    Going to put a super small rubber band around the inner coupler and see if that cures it.

Couplers are probably the most neglected thing when it comes to periodic preventive maintenance.  For the most part they're just a mechanical latch so treat it just like you would any other sticking lock. Get a can of compressed air and a tube of graphite powder for locks.  Every couple of months blow the coupler out with some air and apply a little graphite.  Don't put it back into service until it works 100%.  I'm betting your coupler problems go away.

Won't fix mine : )   I can see the bar and pin sagging ..   when I push it up it locks.   I let it go it unlocks again.
