I had to go to St. Charles out in Pinelawn so I decided to head to Kross Hardware for the first time. Wow what a throw back to the old days and I loved it. I bought a LIRR caboose that nobody has, The owner, cant remember his name but a nice guy, took me upstairs. They have a ton of great stuff..It was a fun hour. If you havent been there, it is neat to see the old hardware store with trains in the back..

I bought a nice LIRR RS-1 there few years back. They have some interesting items.

Tom Morgano is the owner. (its my LHS)
BTW I have a few family members at buried at St Charles as well (my condolences)
I bought a K-Line LIRR engine from Kross for my father when he retired (LIRR conductor). I ended up with it when he passed away. Although it is bittersweet I have a very good memory of getting it for him with my girlfriend (now wife). I had never been to Kross before and I also got treated very well with a trip upstairs to see the layout that was (still is?) there. Excellent store. I have to go back there. At least my wife knew what she was getting in to with me and trains.
And where is this store? What city, what state?

Seems like all the LHS that are 2-story have some cool stuff. I went into a LHS in Red Bank NJ once and felt the same as you did.
I went there a long time ago.
I remember prices were a bit high back then compared to other outlets.
I have been there many times. His prices can be a bit high, but sometimes he'll work with you a bit. It usually depends on his mood.
Kross is one of the few places around here that still work on MTH PS-1 stuff. I've had a him fix a few items for me in the past.
He has a very large inventory in that room upstairs!
The inventory upstairs above the front of the store IMO is probably worth as much as the real estate.
When I offered to buy an expensive item for the same price he was selling them on eBay I was all but shown the door. After that I have only gone back to look once in about 5 years.
This is a interesting thread. The owner was pretty nice..Of course his prices are higher than Trainland or Charles Ro..But it was just a nice little throwback for me. It reminded me of many of the train stores I went to as a kid in the 70's.
