On the Montauk branch, there's been a lot of signal box installation between (at least) East Hampton and Montauk. These are not just your standard grade-crossing signal type relay and battery boxes. These are new huts with dimensions that allow people to open a door and go inside. Some of them are mounted on concrete pads, and a couple are mounted on raised platforms, one supposes to elevate them above ocean flooding along the Nappeague Stretch. There are new electric utility poles and commercial meters powering them.

 

Does anyone know what they're installing? PTC? The crews don't look happy enough to approach and ask; considering the heat this summer, I don't blame them, actually.
