Hi I have oiled the gears. I have noticed that that the tipple will come back from the dump position to up right position but will not stop trying to move . also I noticed a stop on the gear wheel that was broken and I glued it back without effect once in the upright position motor keeps trying to move and the stanchions do not release. HELP
Hi BILL,
Make sure the motor gear marks are lined up. If not you can align them by moving the gear wheel to get the marks to line up, just pull up on the pinion gear arm slightly and turn gear to align marks. Hope this helps.
Hi thanks for your response. I have tried that and it maid no difference any other thoughts
Hi BILL,
This is from the previous page is the only other thing I can think of.
One more thing I can think of is when you put it back together, the two sides that have the gearing teeth, they are gray with the Lionel logo on the sides, are they aligned? Make sure they are against the stops before starting. Also on more thing the clamps that pull down and hold the car are they on the tab that activates the clamps?
Hi could show me an illustration of the clamps in their correct position
Hi I have not taken the unit apart
hi ihve added a picture of the only obviously thing broken. this tab off the gear which Ican only speculate initiates the tipple to to go forward and clamp the car in place. I I manually move the tipple forward the car gets clamped and the tipple will go back to the up right position with the car released but the unit trying to keep going. does this broken part initiate the the contact switch in the picture witch controlls the clamping mechanism?

OK guys...... my NIB,, very used abused tipple rotates but on return one set of clamps won't release. But if I twist/rotate it will release. Weak spring or jumped gears,,,, Any info appreciated rick

Yes, the tab actuates the Limit switch. Key word there- limit. It just tells the electronics to stop the motor.
The clamping is entirely mechanical also driven by the rotation of the entire assembly.
Again, yes, the tab hits the switch, but no, the switch does not initiate or control another motor to actuate the clamping.

Probably the drum has jumped gears and is not perfectly aligned. This is one of the more difficult things I found to get timed and adjusted.
Clamping is mechanically driven by position of the large gear so again, one side might be a few teeth off. Sorry, a bit of trial and error is required.
Thank you Vernon I was hoping it wasn't the case butttt it is I think rick
Vernon you were correct drive gear off one tooth
R2D1,
Yes if you twist the Tipple carriage it will allow the clamps to let go. I had to did it a few times until it got to the right spot. Now works good. Yes the part that is broke off as VERNON a stated is the limit switch.
But now it reverted to bad tipple..... it's slipping gears again for some reason .. it just can't work 4-5-6 times then not. A head scratcher, just glad it's cold out, nothing better to do. LOL thanks all for info rick
