I dropped my Lionel 253 off at Hennings to the couplers replaced as they had snapped off and told them I wanted "hook/latch coupers". Later I realized that the ones I want are simply called latch couplers, not to be confused with the combination coupler which combines the a latch and hook type.

Should I call them to clarify or am I over reacting? As everyone here knows, Henning's is one of the best when it comes to quality of repairs and knowledge of trains so they probably already know that 253 have the former of the two coupler types listed above; however they might just follow the "doctors orders" and put on the combination couplers.

Admittedly, I get too caught up in the small details at times (who doesn't?), but don't want to have to get the couplers re-replaced. I don't want to waste their time or confuse things farther.

I’m with @@Steve ”Papa” Eastman - love the versatility of the “latch/slot” or “hook/slot”. Great for mingling with other prewar and probably the most prevalent coupler, on the whole, the tab and slot.

that said, if you have a reason for wanting the latch couplers(the engine only came with latch couplers)- I’d email Henning’s, explain the situation, and ask them “if we can work together to rectify this situation”.  Worst case scenario: they ask you to bring/send them the couplers back intact, you accidentally break BOTH brand new couplers, and have to go back and get the couplers you had originally wanted installed.
