Were any Southern Railway Ps4 passenger steam locomotives ever painted black toward the end of steam on the Southern?

I'm sure you did but have you checked with the Southerns Historical society?
Hi Chris, I checked everything I could find on google and in my railroad library..........zip. Now I'm curious and looking for answer.
Were Southern Rwy. PS4 Steam Engines Ever Painted Black?
The first order of Ps-4s (1923) were delivered in black paint. The second (1926) and third (1928) orders were delivered in green paint. Beginning in 1926 other passenger power (from 4-4-0s to 4-8-2s) were also repainted green.
toward the end of steam
During the period the Ps-4s were being retired (1947-1949), both passenger and freight diesels were being delivered in green paint schemes. All the photos I've seen of the last years of the Ps-4s show them in the standard passenger scheme. I'll leave it to others to prove a negative, but the amount of evidence supporting the existence of black postwar Ps-4s is equivalent to the amount of evidence suggesting postwar solar powered, purple and orange Ps-4s - zero.
An interesting list of as delivered information, sadly nothing on the end of steam however. You can still check it out if you like here......
