Okay...I know this is an old subject...but, I took mine out of the box to put it into operation.

The crane spins "freely" and the motor that controls rotation does the same...did I miss an instruction...is there something I am supposed to "click" in order to engage the motor with the gears??

The crane moves rather pitifully forward and back on the track...almost as if the rubber traction tire is not fully engaged...or something is out of whack...is that normal...or do some of you have a very robust and normal movement of the crane on the track??

Believe it or not...the electro-magnet...seems to engage...pick up items...but, pressing the button, again, does not turn it off.  I am not sure if it turns off...even after 60 seconds as the literature says.

Which one is the "dud" me, the operator, or the crane itself.

Blast away with some advice, opinions, or something helpful, I hope.  Point me to another thread that answers/solves all these problems...if you can.

Thanks!

Hard to give an opinion without seeing it in operation.....maybe a quick video would help.  As far as the rotation of the cab is concerned did you engage the gear inside the cab as the instructions advise...the rest of your issues such as the magnet and crane movement do sound as if their is a communication problem between your cab 2 and the crane.  Does the Cab2 work well with other legacy engines.....a bit more info would be helpful.

Thanks,

By following the step by step instructions mine ran as stated right out of the box.  My 18V track power was jumpered off my main MTH TIU power making sure the Lionel Command box was working.

As far as I can see on my Gantry Crane, at the base the gear motor and cab rotation gear should stay engaged.

I saw no instructions saying "engage the gear inside the cab as the instructions advise".   That comment seems to be in the rail car mounted crane instructions.  My Gantry Crane doesn't have a cab side opening door.

My Gantry moves smoothly for short bursts.  Maybe I need to practice.

Here is a YouTube video with the sound unit.  The action in this video is the way mine works without the sound.

Here are my memory jogging notes for running (Throttle being the red knob on the TMCC controller):

Gantry Crane TMCC #82

   Black Main Track Switched

Press ENG 82   (using Cab 1)

  Roll Motor

    AUX 1 #2   Throttle ↗ or ↖

  Rotate Cab

    AUX #1    Throttle ↗ or ↖

  Hook Motor

AUX 1 #3   BOOST   Raise Hook

AUX 1 #3   BRAKE    Lower Hook

  Magnet

    AUX 2    toggle Magnet ON

    AUX 2    toggle Magnet OFF
