Finally some blue/silver #7 R12’s after 10 plus years of waiting.

Agree, glad MTH finally released these, had one done by someone who did a hell of a job with the weathering.
I’m excited for the silver/ blue R12’s and the wash train! Sirt Steve, I’m hoping the silver & blues are signed up as the 3rd Av shuttle rather then the #7.... but let’s see. Probably neither route :-/ Here are my R12’s from the 1st two runs. I did all the weathering and graffiti myself, also installed my own outside mounted windows like the prototype. It’s some of my earliest work and has errors but overall I enjoy them a lot!
DJ, those corrected windows look so much better along with sliding into the intended window channels. Good job on the decorations as well. That's how it should be done. I also like your informative you tube videos. Looks like they used an old photo #7 in the latest catalog. You would think they would be more specific?
The squealing brakes were not in the red R12 sound set. Several requests to Roy were never fulfilled along with correcting the silly LIRR MP15 last I checked. I hope he will add them.
Thanks

Steve, thanks so much for the compliments! I’ve followed your work for years and it’s been a big inspiration for me with my passion for trains. There is a wealth of art & history in this hobby and you capture it in the purest and simplest sense within the era you model..... one of the few that do.
In regards to the red R12’s.... I put a different sound set in my set. It’s a flushing train now. I couldn’t stand the lack of brakes and the stupid door bell!
Now I actually like the station stops on the mp15’s but I do agree that they should offer a freight sound set for the modern era mp15’s giving us the ability to swap sound sets. I kitbashed some K line 18” aluminum LIRR cars for my oyster bay/ lower Montauk commuter run.
Last point, I’m not sure who Roy is. Can he help MTH to stop screwing up LIRR & NYCTA sound sets & details? I’m remembering all the errors on the Redbird R33S cars & ”Bella rose” on the dashing Dan MU’s. Can he help us?
SIRT posted:Thanks. Roy w is the sound guy at mth. He should be able to help you as he is good with emails. I expected to buy an mp freight diesel as the bottom sound set sticker indicates and got a commuter engine. A freight sound set was going to be available for download. Still waiting.
Do you have roy’s Email?
NICE TRAIN GUYS.NOW HOW DO I POST SOME PICS.LOL
I think the problem is too many subforums. If there was no subway subforum and just everything went in the main O gauge forum, more people would see it. Subforms are a good idea, but they don't work because they don't get enough attention. People forget to check them or perhaps don't even know about them.
SIRT posted:Man if the lack of interest on this forum on subways is a sign of the times, MTH is in trouble. Guess the SUB craze is over?
Anyone know what lines the latest sets will have, or is everyone out to lunch?
October always seems to be very slow, uninterested, non active time of the year for model trains. I'm not sure why.
No idea what lines the R12’s will be; other then the grey set. They were only on the 7 train wile painted in that scheme. The only other route that had complete r12 sets was the 8 train or better known as the 3rd Av shuttle. Sorry If im telling you what you already know.
The Mth web sight has all the routes for the GOH slant 40’s routes are A, B, & Q
both the B & the Q are the orange letters (6th Av)
personally I think they should have done A, B, & The Canarsie L lots of rail fan highlights & history on the Canarsie line.
anyhow.... back to the R12’s... I want grey set as the 7, silver/ blue as the 3rd Av shuttle, red set as either a 1, 2 or a 3 train.

I posted about the slant 40’s in the sub transit forum and nobody wants to converse. Maybe I should have posted in the 3r forum
Love that wall I hope the trucks dont disintegrate like the red R12's did

My red R12’s trucks are starting to rot. Hopefully that problem is a thing of the past.
I'm still around The silver/blue R12 set looks interesting...I may be in for one set to intermix with my silver/blue R17's (especially now that its power car matches its real-life big brother--the 1:1 scale #6688 now wears the same paint scheme as its model)
I don't know about the retooled R40's. I never really got the chance to run mine since at the time I set them up I only had a Z1000 and it didn't have the oomph to run a 10-car train. On top of that, I'm considering an LED upgrade for that one since the real ones had fluorescent lighting.
The biggest bugaboo is time. I have full subway sets (R21, R17, R36, R40, R32, R1, LV) that I have yet to run. I bought four-figures worth of locomotives in 2014 that are still propped up in the corner of the dining room waiting to be run on my loop. Even the pictures of stuff I bought at this past York is still waiting to be included in the current "what did you get" thread because of an unloading-ramp scene I'm trying to build in the test-track yard for one of pieces I acquired.

I grew up between the the D train and the #4. I would be interested in either but prices have put new purchases on the slow track. But I do check this forum regularly to see what you subway folk are up to. Love the Old New York thread.

What happened to all the old subway guys? Not even a reply from Joe or Brian?
Has everyone checked out of the hobby?
Whats up there Steve, I've been spending a lot of my spare time in the new facebook group. If you can show me the correct M, and tell me the size I'll print cut them on the machine. MTH hasn't given any hints as to what lines the R40's with be released in.
HEY WHERE IS EVERYBODY?..............LOL...MUST BE LUNCHTIME

These are in stock now get them before they are gone.
Just got mine & tested it. Love the paint, the sound set for the re-routed 5 train is awesome.... hi Brighton Zach! But!!!!! The windows are single sheets of plastic glued inside, not outside like the prototype. The interior lights are not LED, they are the same old incandescent bulbs Mth has been using for 20 years now. But the headlights are LED???? The powered car has rule 17 lighting... why? I’m glad I just got a 4pk of silver & blue as I was considering more of these sets. I have a lot of work to do to make this set look more real.
No LED interior lights? Well they will match my R17 add on cars I plan to run with these 4.
At least the raised outdated number boards were removed from the mold to make room for the larger M logos. Both IMW's M decals are the incorrect sizes. One must remember, RK's are LARGER than true O Scale so making scale items as we know it will not be sized accordingly. I made them on the PC and printed them out.

Would you print some for me? I’ll Paypal you for your time. Email me.
The rule 17 lighting is a problem with the sound file They forgot to delete the diesel features. If brought up to MTH they can amend the sound file and publish a new one The sound files not only control the sounds but most of the features on the board. The interior lights on the subway cars are direct connects to track power. The headlights and end lights come off the board They would need a major change to get the interior lights LED I am guessing it was cost that led them to keep it this way

Good info! I’ll email Mth, my R33s subway has rule 17 lighting as well.

Give me the sizes and I'll make them again.

Should be 1/2" round to look correct. I.M.W. decals are 5/8", too big and smaller M's are too small.
I will be making them later on during the week. The motor car photo M was an experiment.
Post yours and I will review them.
Excellent work, as usual SIRT. I love the photo window inserts of the people in the motor car. Really nice!

SIRT, Your work is spectacular - as always! Also wanting to illuminate transit cars with LEDs, may I ask which brand/model you use? Keeping trailer car interiors open for detailing precludes mounting bulky electronics, inside, and under-car compartments are too small. Steam road equipment is much easier to light, bathrooms are just the right size for capacitors.
Evan Designs, all the micro electronics are built in now. 6 - 17V Just solder 4 wires to the overhead light panel. LED's stay at a constant glow. Push into the red subway lens and superglue in place. I only use the MTH DCS system set @17 V.

Just cut up photos taken from the internet and apply as wallpaper with Elmer's glue. Grind down plastic figures to fit in seats. Only need from waist up.
Resize photos on an Excel spread sheet first.
