This is the first expansion of the layout in years. I wanted to expand the main line and bring it into the middle of the room, add some really long staging tracks to hold long trains and add another yard, a turntable and roundhouse.

Hope to see more of your layout and progress. Looks great!
Thanks! It’s fun and hard work.
That's a big expansion! very nice.

Great work! If I only had the room!
It might not seem like much but I went from 1 working line to 5 today including wiring power to switches and tracks, cutting rails to fit and checking clearances.
Quick video.
Progress today. I ran power to the yard lead and inserted switches to connect the yard lead to the main. I also inserted a switch to lead to the turntable. I reinstalled the turntable. It was a major undertaking to get it level with the tracks. It’s not perfect all the way around but those fine adjustments are for another day. I included a video of some progress and the first engine on the turntable.
A little more done today. Laid out more tracks around the turntable. Test fitting coaling tower. Wondering how to enlarge atlas O roundhouse.
Unusual load on the end of this train. Checking clearances for this car. I plan to model several of them.
Looking great!!
Thanks!
That's looking great, David!!
Looks like you are having a great time...thats the important part. Nick
No progress today. Instead one locomotive fried itself and started smoking. Everything seemed to want to derail. I pulled the plug and went home. Better luck tomorrow?
Until now, I didn't realize the Atlas roundhouse had flooring. I bought mines used and that was not included.

That’s funny. I wish I had built mine without it as it raises the track, which has required raising it on the approach tracks too
I see it appears you are laying your track directly on chipboard (OSB). Don't you get a great deal of extraneous noise? I use Midwest foam and also a layer of homasote.

Probably. It has never bothered me.
David, that looks like you are into a huge undertaking. I really like the looks of it and hope to see more. I agree, you should show more of your layout. Thanks for sharing with us.
Very nice! Thank you for posting.

I finished connecting the curves on the other side of the yard and ran power to them.
Quick video of PRR F3s trying out the yard and some shots of progress.

Looking great !

Well done!

Very nice, can't wait to see more.
Put in the last switch for this side of the yard. When I can muster the will to do it, I’ll have to put in under layout motors. I haven’t checked for power yet. These were pre wired so the hope is no more jumpers to put in.
Looks great, David! How long are the yard tracks?
Layout looks enormous. What a luxury to have so much space for a layout where the trains can go far, to different places. Arnold

Mark. The outside 7 tracks will hold about 35 cars. The other tracks are shorter to avoid interfering with the turntable and roundhouse area.
That's great! Thank you!
Wow, seems to me that you work quickly. Gargraves track?
This all looks great and the trains run well; nice job.

Mix of gargraves and Ross. I haven’t secured the track yet. I’m still testing clearances and reliability.
Quick video.
Nice run!!
Tonight was a new milestone. I’m still testing the track. I ran three trains on the main while working the yard. No issues. Then I routed the trains through the yard itself. Everything worked great.
I love it! The good looking trains ran great!
