Had one. Sold it for parts. The drive axles typically have a bit of lateral play in them. On my engine, going around curves, the lateral play was enough to force the side rod screws holding the rods on the lead driver into the crosshead/valve gear sliding back and forth. Dead in the water going around curves.

On straight track, ran beautifully - as do all LC+ locos. No plastic gears that I can recall as I bought one of the first ones (Chessie).

My LC+ Pacific is a real winner with great color (I've got the blue BM&R). Same goes for the LC+ Postwar styled Berkshire, although I've seen the headlight flicker a few times while running it and had the sound cut out once. Nothing to be concerned about yet as it has run a lot trouble free  and may have been dirty track related.

I also had the LC+ Camelback but sold it as well. Nothing wrong with it as it ran beautifully but it sat more than it ran and I needed the shelf space for incoming preorders.

Just curious, what size curves do you have where you had the problems.

thanks

0-27, 0-31, and 0-42. All curves. At the time, I was a member of the National Capital Trackers and I vaguely recall it having issues on the super-wide curves used on the club modular layouts.

My pacific did that.  Wasn't the wheel play or the valve gear.   The two "rods" that the sliding part rides on has a small slot on the chassis it need to sit on.  After a bit of study I pushed it with my fingers and it fell into place.  No more problems.  My favorite steamer!
