LCCA Introduces New Lower Price Membership Category!

The Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) is proud to announce the creation of a new category of club membership, designated Electronic Membership (EM), effective April 1, 2014.   New LCCA members may chose to join the club as EM’s at a reduced rate of only $25/year with the same rights and privileges as the current LCCA Regular Members (RM’s).

LCCA President Dennis DeVito is proud to introduce this new membership category and allow current members the option to access to the club magazines digitally while reducing the cost of membership.  “This new EM classification will appeal to an emerging generation that prefers to gather news and information primarily from the internet”

This new category allows for people who desire to have digital access to the award winning LCCA Club publication, 'The Lion Roars', the Junior Member Publication, 'The Lion Cub', on-line and LCCA trading magazine, the 'Interchange Track' to use new catalog software in the Members Only section of our website www.lionelcollectors.org.  EM's will not receive hard copy printed publications delivered by the USPS.  All EM’s will have full access to e-track, the electronic version of our club publication “Interchange Track” and to all areas of our website www.lionelcollectors.org including the Web Store.

This new membership category is available to all new LCCA members AND to existing members who chose to change their membership classification at time of their renewal.   An EM can upgrade their membership to a RM status at any time, but a RM can only change to becoming an EM at time of membership renewal.

There is no change for any LCCA Regular Members (RM) and Junior Members (JM).  These members will continue to receive their hard copy publications, plus have access to the electronic files in the Members Only Section on our Website.

We feel this new, optional Electronic Membership category will allow the LCCA to appeal to a younger web savvy audience and will be vital to our long term success and sustainability of the club.   We are always looking for ways to improve our club and enhance the membership experience by adding additional value to our members.  The Train Hobby is changing, and new hobbyists have different preferences than many of us more seasoned individuals.  The LCCA is reaching out to these new hobbyists as well as maintaining the benefits and features of regular membership

The LCCA is also actively seeking new LCCA Junior Members (JM’s) who are members under the age of 18 years.  If you know of someone who is under 18 years old and has an interest in Lionel Trains specifically and toy trains in general, please consider sponsoring or provide them with a gift membership into the LCCA.  (The cost of the JM membership has been recently reduced to $25.00 per year).

I welcome all new LCCA members and appreciate the continued support and participation of our current members.   It is our members that make the club such a worthwhile organization to belong to.  Thank YOU!

Sincerely,

Al Kolis

Is the emphasis still primarily on 'toy trains' in the LCCA?  Our local club has a jr member who likes Lionel trains but is definitely not a toy train aficionado by a long shot. He is very knowledgeable of prototype RRing, follows closely the restoration status of No 611 (that's No 746 to the toy train folks) and Southern Mikado 1401. He knows a lot about the Tallulah Falls RR and drives a 2-4-0 locomotive at the Rabun Gap RR Museum near here. He wants to be a history professor someday. He's just 16 years old.

Is there any move towards a more prototypical emphasis within the club for the younger members who don't have the 'nostalgia factor' of toy trains from their youth? A few younger folks may have had Lionels growing up but I would wager that many more went from Thomas directly to HO gauge. Our young friend fit this profile. Lionel has been producing some fairly decent scale and semi-scale trains now for several decades!

Bill,

Our volunteer is in the process of updating the page and on-line registration. We should have it operational within the next day or so.   He could not work on it today as previously planned due other family commitments.  The membership application with the EM option is on our website.  You can print out, fill in the application and mail to our business office.

Thank you for your patience on this matter.

I can assure you this is not an April Fools joke.  This is a legitimate announcement

The LCCA is a member focused club.  A lot of our members are Lionel Legacy train owners and operators.  We have a full spectrum of members whose interests range from entry toy traon  to the most detailed and prototypical products and everything in between.    Everything written in our publications is written by members for members.  If you go to our club publication The Lion Roars archive section on the public front page you will be able to see past issues.  Our Editor tries to maintain a balance in each issue.  We try to have Pre-war, post war, modern, human interest, special events topics etc in each issue.  We are looking for new authors to write about American flyer trains and other topics.   We recognize and appreciate the varied interests of our members.  We will welcome articles about more prototypical topics.  We wouldn't dedicate an entire issue, but if we can get members to author these types of articles on a regular basis, we will do that.  I invite you and your 16 year old friend to refer me to some authors and topics.  Please contact me at 248 709-4137 or at agkolis@comcast.net if you want to discuss this further.  In my opinion! there is no wrong way to enjoy our hobby.  It is a matter of taste and personal interests, not a matter of being right and wrong.  I invite and welcome you and your friends to express and contribute articles with your interests.  I am certain we have a lot of members who have this same interest.

It is the people that make and determine the direction of our  club.  We are on an ever changing journey with new technology being enhanced and improved every day.

Club President Dennis DeVito recently started to post weekly poll questions on our website www.lionelcollectors.org. We post the results and are also looking for other poll questions.  This is all in an effort to get member feedback and opinions to further improve the club and increase the value of belonging to our club.  Pease contact metro discuss further.
