I've searched the forums for an answer to this question and I believe I have an answer, but I'm a

little unsure. If I hook up a bunch of switches using the SC2, will the lcs app recognize those switches and will I be able to operate the switches from my iPad? I like the idea of using sc2's to save some money over using asc2's.

Also a few years ago I purchased an sc2 and hooked up some on/off accessories and I wasn't impressed with the functionality of the sc2 at all. It was very unreliable and sometimes wouldn't respond until I pushed the button several times. I sent the sc2 back. Has this been an issue with anyone else? I'm a little hesitant to buy them for switches.

Yes. Just make sure they are assigned the same ID on LCS as they are in the remote. Also make sure they operate from your remote first. Then setup LCS.

Concerning SC2s vs ASC2s, if you want to continue to be frustrated use the SC2. While it does work, it's as reliable with LCS as it is with a Cab 1 or 2. ASC2s also have some additional features for momentary, latching, etc. that a SC2 does not.

I can't really speak to the compatibility of the sc-2 with the wifi system, however the reliability issue of the sc-2 is probably a poor ground issue. Mine always operated erratically - sometimes it responded, sometimes it didn't.
I added an earth ground wire from a waterpipe and wrapped it around the sc-2 and it fixed everthing.

Yes they do work just as the engines. I found that a ground wire, pin #5 on the base db9 which is half of the antenna system, laid over the sc-2s is needed if the sc-2s are somewhere under the train table. And also I found that I had to have an outside rail, the U terminal on the base, connected to the COM terminal of the sc-2s.

Lionel is lame on this module. I don't think whoever wrote the Lionel manual understood what was needed. It's basically just like a engine, wheels (com) setting on the outside rails and ground wire (the house ground wires) overhead.

So I have another follow up question... Does the ASC3000 work with LCS as well?  I'm aware I would need an SER2 to hook it up.  I'm wondering if the ASC3000 would bypass the signal issues related with SC-2's.  I'm also having a hard time finding SC-2's at a reasonable price point that would convince me to buy them vs. and ASC2.  I am using fastrack and also K-line switches.  I have both motor controlled and solenoid controlled k-line switches.  Is the ASC3000 a good fit for controlling these switches?  Also, are there two different kinds of olde ASC controllers?  I noticed some have ASC3000 and some are just ASC.  Whats the difference?  Thanks for your help in advance!

I can't answer your question, but I do have an extra SC-2 that I have only used for a few minutes that I would like to sell.  Make me a fare offer.  Email me at harv70@comcast.net.  I also have two barely used SC-1s that I would like to sell as well.
