That's a very nice photo essay - nostalgic. 
Nothing is sadder to me than an abandoned RR track or grade.
So much work into something that was literally tossed away later.
I live very close to the old MLW line to the Pacific coast in WA state and I can hardly stand looking in that direction when I pass by the old roadbed...
