Legacy 2 truck Lionel Shay

my 6-11239 Merrill & ring lumber co shay is the same.

Thanks BIG Dodge Train. I was hoping that there was something that could be done, 

I hope some of the Technicians will chime in here, and make some suggestions of what can be done to increase the sound.

Possibly a new speaker, or new sound board???????, or Possibly both?????? 

The speaker is a 40mm baby fatboy. These are not as loud as the 50mm version but probably used due to lack of room. The main reason for the low sound is use of the "Railsounds Lite" board. The few engines I have with this board also lack volume. The problem is trying to get a full blown Legacy Railsounds board from Lionel. You could call and ask if you could swap yours out but not sure what their response would be.

Mine isn't the loudest locomotive I have, but it's not that bad.  I have the 6-11297 P. Bunyan #18, I believe identical to most of the others.  I don't know if there's room for one of the little amplifiers you can find on eBay, they're about 1/4" thick and less than 1" square.  You need a source of 5VDC power as well, but that would certainly boost the audio drive.  I don't see changing the speaker without a lot of surgery, and the 40mm fatboy can be pretty loud if driven by the right audio source.

   I agree, not the loudest but not bad either.  However I do wish it was as loud as my P2 Pittsburgh Shannon 37 Street Car, now that is a serious sound system.

Well, everything could be like the VL-BB, three speakers, two separate sound systems, and yes, LOUD!  However, my 2-truck Shay is loud enough for me.
