I just wiredby Ross switches to aiu.  I powered the switches by connecting to the tiu at the same post I had legacy wired.  My remote would turn on then shut off.    I later disconnected the power to the switches and it seemed to work.  Should I assume that the power to the switches should not be connected to track power?  If so how should I power the switches?

Yes, it should not.

If so how should I power the switches?

With a separate power supply that is phased with the track power supply. Then, the two supplies should have their Common wires connected.
