Was operating my layout tonight. After about 2 hours of operation all engines stoped and all lights on the locos started flashing. This is a bad sign is it not that the legacy base is not transmitting the signal to the track?  Tryed a complete shutdown of the layout for 5 seconds. Then powered up everything and all was well. Ran trains for about 10 min then the same thing happened. Engines all shut down and headlights flashing. Is my base going bad? What has been the legacy base failure rate to date? Does lionel still fix these for free?

Read my last post also for a more detailed description of what is occurring.

I had the same thing happen a couple of times.  I reloaded the base and cab firmware / 6.01 and haven't had any problems since.

I have no idea what the base failure rate would be, however to my knowledge Lionel continues to issue warranty RA's for the legacy base and cab hardware.  Shipping charges to Lionel will likely apply.

Good luck!

Bruce

It's been reported here that the output to track terminal on the base can become loose causing signal problems. Might check that too.

Not sure about updating the base and keeping data, but can't you back it up using the Legacy software utility and then reload if something happens? I don't have many Lionel engines so I don't do this often and the old memory ain't what it used to be.

Guys even reinstalling 1.6 did not solve my problem. Here is whats going on.

I  am running a lionmaster challenger on the inside loop and a lasup of two legacy sd70 macs on the outer loop. The lionmaster challengers head light is flashing violently. The lashup sd70 macs headlights are not and are acting normal. Also my new pnp command culvert loader and unloader which are hooked to the 18v track power. Their strobe lights are flashing violently. I unpluged them both and it made no difference. On my command base no lights are flashing even when turning the red nob on the cab2.

Unpuging the jack from the command base wall wart on back of the command base does not send all the engines flying as one would expect. Plugging the walwart jack back into the base has this effect. everything still has sound but the cab2 has no fuction at all. Lights on loader and unloader stop flashing as does engine headlights. Also tryed shutting down the remote. The remote would not power off holding down the ctc button. Removing one of the fresh batteries which I installed earlier this evening shut it down. Putting the battery back in got the remote working as normal again. It is now turning on and off. Reseting all power to the layout gets everything working again, but only briefly then all the lights start flashing violently again shutting everything down. All engines stop, but still have sound. remote when activated has no function at all. WTH is going on here. I Think my legacy base is falling? What do you guys think.

Have you changed anything?  Where the Legacy Base is plugged into the wall?  Where the 1 wire attaches to the layout?  Have you experienced any electrical issues such as power surge or failure that might have adversely affected the base?

Lionel does service these under warranty.  The cost to you is shipping to them.
