just wondering if the block controllers can be used with the iPad APP from Lionel. have used it to throw switches but would like to be able to shut off power to some passing tracks with it as well. don't really want to build a stationary control panel and will be running conventional trains.

Well, Block Controllers were designed to control track blocks, so the obvious answer seems to be yes!
Rick, just double checking that you plan to use a BPC2 for the track block control per GRJ's comment. Track switches are normally controlled with an ASC2. An ASC2 could be used to control a track block but that is not its intended purpose.
John I know they can be used to turn blocks on and off my question is if the LCS I Pad app can be used to control them. I have switch controllers as well as Wi FI running now.
I am not John but the answer is yes. You can build a mimic display on the iPad or just put all the items on a screen. I chose to do both. Here are screen shots. The BPC2’s are the icons at the end of the sidings, the ASC2’s are all the other icons except for the two Fire buttons. Those Fire buttons are preprogrammed route selections that automatically set all turnouts necessary for a preset route.
The second page has some of the ASC2 controlled accessories on the left and the BPC2 blocks on the right.
