I have the Rock Island GP7 # 28656. One of the things I really like about this loco is the easy access to the smoke unit. I can pop the hatch, remove the funnel and add smoke fluid right into the smoke unit. Simple, fast and effective.

How many other Legacy diesels have this type of easy access???

Thanks!

These are one of the few...unfortunately.  Those funnels stink.

You got that right... Some of the TMCC F7's had the smoke units right below the hatch as well... very handy.

I purchased the smoke fluid needle applicator and it greatly helps, but still smoke fluid  bubbles tend to form...and when you turn the smoke fan on the fluid tends to spatter everywhere.

Yes, that's the only one that I know of. Really do like being able to put the needle right into the batting. Makes a world of difference in fluid absorption and reducing mess.

The needle applicator does seem to help even when you have to go through the funnel. At least compared to using the pipette or eye dropper.
