I have MTH DCS and I just added Legacy. Got my first Diesel engine and I cannot seem to change the ID number from 1 to 31. I have follow the directions, put the switch in PMG mode and selected Engine, engine number blinks, press Set button. No feedback from engine (horn or Light). Put switch back to run. In order for me to run this engine I have to use engine ID number 1. Everything seems to work but I cannot change the ID number. Help.

The only thing our of sorts is your phrase "engine number blinks". What does blinks mean?
hi
I can only tell you the problem I had. Very basic.
If your going from information on page 54 of the V1.5 Legacy manual.
I failed to make sure the track was powered down. I mean no communication between the center rail and the Legacy base.
When flipping the switch from program to run ( no power) that was necessary in my case. Did 7 engines after I learned that boo boo. Wasted a day.
Not sure if that's your problem or not. Good luck.

Is this what you are saying you did after turning the track power on?
Press ENG – Press 3 – Press 1 – Press SET.
Power Off, wait 10 seconds, switch to RUN, etc., etc.
Yes. cannot seem to get the ID # to change from 1 to the one I want which is 31.
So you did turn the power off, before returning the prog switch to run, eh?
I did follow the directions. The problem is when I press the set button there is no feedback from the Engine (Horn did not sound in accordance with the directions). Which means the Engine did not get the new ID number. I will try again tomorrow on a clean track, I have MTH DCS running on my layout and maybe that is causing a problem. I will try changing the ID # on a track without DCS.
Did you try another number? I had, I mean HAVE, a problem with ID 90 for my Lionel Legacy Pioneer Zephyr, just wont work. Any other number I gave the engine works fine. So I gave up and am using ID 9.
Even tried to give another engine ID 90, nothing.

Will give a try.
Nothing seems to work. I called Lionel today and there guess is that the engine is defective. Returning Engine.
I am having the same issue with the ID number. Runs on ID1 but when trying to change ID to 12 and 67, nothing happens no horn no blinking lights no response. Responds fine on ID1. I also have MTH engines on the same track and left them but removed the one other Legacy on same track. Engine is a new 6-82206. I have 4 other Legacy engines and never had this issue. Have you solved this issue?
I think the Lionel engine was defective, I return the engine and got another Legacy engine and it work according to the instruction.
Thank you. I will contact Lionel.
I had an older (1999) Lionel TMCC loco that would not accept a new ID number. It operated perfectly but only as engine #1.
Lionel replaced an internal board and all was corrected.
Seems like there was a recently reported Program/Run switch not working or not wired up inside.
CJack,
Roger that, and only seems to be effecting the new Diesel type Legacy engines!

This engine is steam. It is also supposed to have an Odyssey switch according to the Lionel website description, and does not unless I just cannot find it.
Can I assume you have the instruction manual? If you do, all the info is in the manual. If you don't have one, go to:
https://www.lionelsupport.com/...ents/73-8049-250.pdf
You can download a PDF file of the manual.

Thanks Ray, but I have the manual and the legacy manual. I have 4 other Legacy engines that this was never a problem, normally very easy. Unfortunately I believe the engine is defective since it will run only when you assign it ID1.
Oh I forgot to mention the manual has only one smoke switch, when the engine has two and of course does not have a location of the Odyssey switch. All my other Legacy engines have a Odyssey switch that can be found, even my steam switcher which is in a very different place. So the Class A manual that comes with this engine is generic. If Lionel did not build a switch in they should remove that description from their website feature list and explain it does have Odyssey II as advertised but cannot be turned off and on with a switch. I hope this explains the issue I am having with this, new out of the box, particular engine. Great Sound as usual for Legacy.
Isn't this the engine that has the compromised electronics because of space restraints?
Look here...
I hope not!!

Well...compromised is probably too strong. It you read the whole thread, there are some who are upset because it's electronics are not what they expected, and some who are perfectly ok with it because of the awesome sound and smoke. Just different. Runs a little faster for a turn of the big red knob, but it's just a short learning curve.
