So I just bought this diesel and struggled to get it to smoke. I think the first issue is that it needs at least 40 drops of fluid to get started, not the 20 the owners manual states. When I finally got it to smoke it looked like an engine fire (or circuit board fire) with all the smoke coming out the body vents. After opening the engine up I see the reason is a horrible design for the smoke funnel. A piece of foam glued to the body off center of the stack and the hole in it not big enough for the funnel to fit into. I used a zip tie to hold the funnel properly in the opening on the smoke unit, cut the hole in the foam to the proper size, and removed what glue was left holding it to the body and placed it around the opening on the funnel.  Now it smokes like crazy and the smoke is all actually coming out of the exhaust port.  Don’t know how this design ever worked properly.
