Legacy GP7 Lost All Directional Lighting; GP7 Shell Removal?

Suddenly, my 6-28598 Santa Fe Legacy GP7 has lost all its directional lighting. No headlights, no marker lights. The number board and cab interior lights are fine. The engine changes direction correctly through my Legacy control system.

I guess my first step is shell removal to look for something simple, such as a loose wire/connector?

I guess since the lighting problem is at both ends of the hood, I'll be looking for some kind of central control board or harness??

Any instructions or tips to remove this shell?

I've never opened up one of these modern engines. I've just tinkered a bit with my post war 2046 steamer. I think these new GP7's are great running engines, I'd like to fix this problem.

If I recall correctly their are 8 screws holding the shell on, 4 by each truck

6 screws Jim, 2 at each end and one set off center. I've had the shell off my Rock Island GP7 numerous times.

The shell on this engine is a bugger to get on and off. It is very tight in there. The shell doesn't lift straight up. Once you start lifting it off, you have to slide the shell backward to clear the motor. Opposite maneuvers when putting it back on. Watch carefully where the wires are located too.

I'll second that shell being tight!! It's a slow little wiggle to get that one off as well as the tilt required!

As Chuck stated try Aux 2 first, it turns lights on or off.

AUX 2 ...... don't I feel like a horse's rear end!

I need to sit down, with a favorite beverage, and carefully re-read my Legacy manual. Maybe twice.

I also appreciate the info on removing the shell .... I want to see what's in there.
