I am fairly new to legacy and have just started to set routes and explore the recording feature. Last night was the first time ever and I must say it was rather neat. I recorded using a Blue Comet. Ten minute run time and then looped. The recording included two passenger stops, 2 different levels, horns bells etc. I used engine 99 hoping it would work on other engines with legacy 99 response. And it did. I tried the recent Mikado, Blue Comet, and an F7. But different engines stop at different points as I suspected they would. But hey I had to try! They Missed their passenger station stops by 4 to 6 feet! Therefore this feature has been delegated to my Southern Crescent and Blue Comet because they respond almost exactly the same. All and all a pretty cool way to run trains. Nice feature, but only one recording limits the usefulness. I will be using it while working on different parts of the layout. Kind of keeps you company. The only real criticisms are: 1. the record button is very sensitive to the type of tap, pressure applied and length of time. It took a few attempts to get it correct. 2. Short recording time I ran out of time twice before getting the desired journey. My layout is not that big. This does not seem to be consistent with what the manual says. Version 1.3 The train had to go faster than I would have liked to complete its journey. 3. While setting up routes I discovered you can not use a "route command" as part of the route. Not a big deal. 4. I tried to use the "recording" feature to power up the 4 power districts at the beginning of the recording. Sometimes it worked and other times it didn't so I dropped it in the final recording. 5. Lastly only ONE ENGINE. Thats the one that hurts the most. Well I am off to investigate the action recorder!!! For what it's worth.....
