Hey all. I need some help/advice, and any will be greatly appreciated. I turned on my legacy remote (#990) tonight and the 2, 5, and 8 keys do not function when pressed. However, 2, 5, and 8 do appear on the remote. I have hit the reset button on the back of the remote, but no luck. Any clue as to what is going on? Thanks. Tyler.

something you can try---loosen the screws a tad that hold it together. otherwise send it back to lionel
I think that "loosen the screws" only affects switches with actual buttons like info, etc. The keypad is different.
There's no way I'd "loosen screws" to "fix" my CAB2, if it requires that, I'd send it back. That's not really a fix.
Well, to Concord she goes... Guess I will not be running trains for a while. Thanks for the tips. Tyler.

Actually...it really costs around $600 to run Legacy. That way when one's in the shop, you got the other one. Alternatively, you can run the LCS on your iPad and this would be the ideal time to get into that.
Just sayin'
BTW, I sent two engines in for warranty repair the end of January and they came back in about 14 days. Not bad.
I figure they will probably just swap the remote out for a new one instead of attempting to repair the current issue. Maybe this is a good time to look into getting the wifi module.

You could get a cab1L handheld for $115. You won't get all of your legacy goodies but it works with the 990 base and will save you around $110+ over the legacy expansion set.
I plan to get one whenever I stop blowing my budget on locos.
What happens if the base craps out?

Mine went back several times, now I use Cab1L. This is more compatible with most of my ERR equipment, but even there a few issues do exist. Jon has said these issues are not a priority with him but maybe some day.

Lionel will likely replace the keypad. They did mine a month or so ago for the same failure.
I took a Legacy remote apart once and it was a challenge to get it back together. All of the plastic buttons fall out loosely if it is flipped over and it takes a while to get the puzzle reassembled.
Lionel is on the ball this week. I mailed the remote in on Monday and they shipped the fixed remote back this morning. Wow.
Now, that's service!
