Ladies & Gentlemen,
The Legacy Shay Meadow River Logging Company is starting to come together here at Pine Creek Railroad.
I pulled my old Lionel solid steel gray logging cars and log hoppers with the original 50's Lionel Burro logging Crane, down from the attic today, and put them behind the Legacy Shay Engine, we now have a 1950's version of the Shay Logging train, running on the 2nd level of the Christmas layout.  I still want to acquire some K-Line Skeleton logging cars when I can, but this logging train turned out pretty darn nice.  We will continue with the village and final construction tomorrow but I just had to set up a logging train with the new Shay engine.

Guns,
Unfortunately it is one of the only cars that will allow the limited swing to work correctly, on the Shays short coupler, until I can get the K-line swivel installed or come up with another car that works, I will need to run it next to the engine.  Got to admit
it is not to my liking at all.  Right now I am trying to engineer a way to get one of the old longer Atlas couplers to work on the Lionel Burro Logging Crane Car, so I can couple it directly to the Shay Engine.
Got rid of the vista for ya Guns and reworked the Shay to pull the logging consist correctly.

Guns,

I figured I would take some heat for the Vista, it did look a might strange!

The little Burro logging Crane is a 50's Lionel original, and it even looks good with the Shay's gold lettering.  Waiting on the Rockwell X2 to modify the Shays back stairs to allow the coupler arm to have a much greater swing pattern.  I did not like the K-Line swivel, it still did not allow for the swing needed for the Burro Logging Crane Car, so I do a little engineering of my own, to make things perfect when the x2 arrives.  For now I just removed the back stairs from the Shay.

Guns,

Depending on the rolling stock you are pulling it works well on 048, however if you are using a short wheel base Crane Car like the old Lionel Burro logging Crane it's still a problem, got to much engineer in me to put up with what I know can be made perfect and run on tight 036 curves.  Most of my stuff is 048 and bigger but I have 2 places where the 036 does exist, now I can whip thru these corners no problem.  I am in the process of altering the back steps, so the coupler will swing clear to the outside railing.

Till I get the stairs altered I just removed them, most people don't even know they are missing.  The old solid steel cars float along behind the Shay now, smooth as glass.

Why not run an old transfer caboose between the Shay and the crane.  I think that would workout just fine.
