My Burlington F3's arrived yesterday. Lionel 38597. I programmed them and ran them a bit, without the smoke turned on. Added smoke fluid last night and I thought I would just let it soak overnight.

Today, turned the smoke units on and they were just screaming. I opened one up and oiled the fan shaft, what a difference.

I remember in Reagan's TMCC video he opened up the inlet hole so the unit could take in more air. Has anyone opened the inlet on one of the Legacy units?

Thanks!

The Legacy smoke units have a larger air inlet than the old TMCC units. In his video showing how to do the modification, Mike Reagan states that newer smoke units do not need to have the air inlet enlarged. Legacy smoke units are very good smokers; if they aren't producing much smoke there's something wrong - either a malfunction or some control (physical or electronic) is in the wrong position. To ensure that everything is set correctly, take each unit one at a time, make sure the smoke switch is on and there's smoke fluid in it, then turn on power to the unit and turn on the smoke unit and set the smoke volume in Legacy. The locomotive units may need to be reset to restore the smoke function. If you do all that and it still doesn't smoke or only smokes a little, something is wrong.
