What is the v1.7 Legacy update listed in the update servce area of the Lionel Support website? When you download it, it has v1.6 in the title.

That's a new one on me. The description seems the same as 1.6. Time to put up the Olson Signal!

Clearly a web screwup. The files in the 1.7 update are from 2015!

Yep I noticed that too but I'm curious as to why one would even add a 1.7?

It's interesting that it popped up on the Lionel site, maybe @Dave Olson can shed some light on what is going on. Could be there's a 1.7 coming, and it just got linked to the wrong files.

And the file contents changed... From the read me file There is now a Cab 1.7 file and new Read Me.txt
The Cab2 changes made from v1.61 were as follows:
---------------------------------------------
• Added Legacy ENG Type AUX TENDER
• Added the Legacy version touchpad for the Crane and Boom car
• Bug fixes related to ENG Type TMCC Acela
• Fixed bug where red light frequently came on when transmitting to base
• Corrected bugs related to the Train Builder
BINGO, now there's a file that's dated today for the CAB2 upgrade, that makes more sense! I guess it's time to upgrade my system again...

Nice catch on the posting Chuck. Who knows how long that would have been up there without being noticed. I usually check the links every couple of months to make sure they are still valid but haven't checked in about 3 or 4 weeks.
I like to upgrade stuff…
I also like…
“You can't have everything. Where would you put it?”
Upgrade done. It has been such a long time since any update was released I almost forgot how to do it....

I'll probably do it this evening while it's raining...again. It doesn't look like it gains me much right this moment.
What does the upgrade give us, do we know?

Almost forgot how to upgrade? Well I've forgotten. Doesn't look like overwhelming that needs to be done right away so I can't wait.

I have forgot, can someone on here point me to a place that I can learn again how to do this?
The only room I can remember why I walked into........ is the bathroom.

Several videos on Youtube.
I'll have to upgrade on the weekend. When I saw this initial post, I was confused as everyone else until the update was in full up there where Marty or John posted about it. This weekend maybe I can relax a bit as I don't have to be running around anywhere this time around.
Well geez you guys notice it on the site before I can even post about it.

You can still fill us in on the details. LOL!

I was impressed with how fast you read my posted question. So you are Good!
The one change I see that is a benefit to me now is the fix for the red light coming on a lot when communicating to the base. It actually did fix that.

I thought I remembered, until I hooked my base up to my laptop and the LSU could not see the base. I tried all the physical connections, played around with permission and other settings on the LSU software, and finally realized that I had always done the upgrades from my old XP desktop, so, fearing a Win10 compatibility issue, I checked the web site of the manufacturer of the serial-to-USB cable I have and realized I didn't have the drivers for the cable installed... After getting the drivers installed, the update went really quickly.
Andy
I always use the WiFi now. Less cables. LOL!
Lionel (Dave)-
Thanks for the Aux Tender addition!!!
Dave-
BTW, the support page for the update reads that this is ONLY a CAB2 update when in fact it is BASE+CAB2. Might want to change that on the link.
EDIT: Scratch that. I guess the BASE that comes with the download is still 1.60.
In regards to the red light coming on the controller. Is that actual communication issues , is it a glitch or a sensitivity issue. I get the red light frequently when I am standing in certain areas of the layout. I assumed it was interference due to metal in the canning cupboard located between the controller and base in that area of the layout.
The base file is the same as the previous version, 1.60. They just include it in the ZIP file so you don't have to go hunting for an older upgrade file.
Dave-
I can confirm operation of Aux Tender functions per my spec in the link below. Much appreciated again!

Spent 5 minutes last night downloading, making a module, and updating. Took longer for my computer I use to boot than to do the download and update. Over WiFi of course.
Before attempting to find cables (no wifi in home) and downloads, does anyone know what • "Corrected bugs related to the Train Builder "refers to? Out of all the 1.7 updates, that's the only one I can think that affects me via building trains (lashups to some).

I asked Dave @Dave Olson if he could fill us in. Maybe he'll chime in with some details.
Since my LCS is on my network, and all my computers are as well, I just went over and updated my modules to the latest CAB 1.7 and updated all my CAB2's. Very convenient having it on the network, just turn on the command base and the LSU on any computer here sees it.
This thread inspired me to make a YouTube video explaining the steps for updating to 1.7. I hope this helps!

You said the LSU will run on a Mac in your video. Will it run on an iPad?
@cjack posted:You said the LSU will run on a Mac in your video. Will it run on an iPad?
The Lionel Legacy utility software will not operate on IOS hand-held devices. Only a windows laptop or desktop computer. Plus the system still needs to be connected to the legacy base via USB-Serial.
The LSU doesn't operate on IOS at all, you need to be running a Windows emulation window in order to run it. Since IOS handheld devices don't support any of the Windows emulation platforms, I suspect that's not an option.
Yes, I was actually thinking that was probably the case. Just a flicker of hope that Lionel supported more platforms. Maybe the video could clarify that LSU is a windows only program if the video makes it into the archive status.

I've added in the video's description that the Legacy System Utility software is only compatible for Windows computers, not IOS handheld devices or apparently Macs.
Uh, guys, this Software technically does not run on anything but Windows. Using a Windows emulator on a Mac doesn’t change that fact.
