I've been looking on Youtube & elsewhere for a video posted up on the new Legacy S-2 Pennsylvania Turbines with no luck. The sound is different on these as they're a Turbine loco & I was just curious what they sounded like. I see they're still in stock at Lionel.

I'm about to film a review for it. I should have it up within a week or two.
Thanks,
Eric Siegel
I passed on this engine, glad I did as it allowed me to purchase the VL BB. I've seen a few since then and while nice, I'm not missing it at all.
Looking forward to Eric's review.
Eric that is good to hear., I was just telling MartyE this weekend I hadn't seen any videos of the S2 since they were released
I do like the Turbine sounds on the new ones, but I wish Lionel did use a different whistle rather than reusing the whistle sound from the K4's they did in 2011. Other than that, it's really nice.
Eric's review will be top notch as always. No doubt that he is THE guy to go to online for the most extensive reviews of new products in our hobby!!

It's a nice engine, in my opinion equal in quality to other Legacy locos in every way, etc. However, the sound is, well, underwhelming - that may be me, not the loco. It does sound different than any other steam locos I have (or diesels for that matter, of course). And it doesn't sound at all like any of the MTH or Lionel UP gas turbines either. I'm not sure what I expected or why, but the sound is - well, maybe boring is the best word. I bought it mainly for collection completeness: the S-2 is on my list of locos I want to have and I knew this would be scale, run well when and if I wanted to, etc.
Are their any detailed pics?
Extremely unfortunate about the moisture problems with the packaging and the subsequent recall by Lionel. I'm assuming that all the problems have been resolved. Apparently it's been poorly communicated that Lionel still has these available.
FWIW, I was sorely tempted to get one of these. I was fortunate to get a deal on a 3rd Rail S2 Turbine. Next move for that engine is a trip to JDS Ltd for a PS2 upgrade as funds permit.

I believe they used that whistle because it was prototypically accurate for the model. A number of PRR locomotives used the same whistle.

I also have a 3rd Rail S2 Turbine waiting on an upgrade. One problem. There are no PS/2 sound files that I can find that have the turbine sounds. The only one that MTH has that is downloadable is for the PS/3 boards. I suspect my turbine will have to wait for the PS/3 upgrade kit to be available.

I have the little PS2 RTR version (that chuffs) and recently the bigger and awesome-r PS3 with the turbine roar and the steady smoke output. Very very impressive and fun to run. Hopefully MTH comes thru with the upgrade for the PS2's. Chuffing sound is really not a good fit for that engine.
Scott, I downloaded the sound file and tried it for the PS/2 version, just to hear it. When I heard the chuffing, I couldn't stand the though of my nice 3rd Rail engine chuffing!
The turbine didn't "chuff"!

The PS3 has a nice steady roar and continuous smoke flow to go with it. I like it but would love to add the sound of a fighter jet engine turbine in full afterburner! Now that would be impressive!
from what i was told it hasnt changed much from this one..
heres another one with different whistle..

Which is why I'm so happy I got my hands on the PS-1 version. I'm mostly conventional, so I didn't need the command electronics, and the steal of the deal, I couldn't pass it up. It's currently my motive power for my carpet loop. I still need to work on the smoke unit. I had to rebuild it, but lately it seems to put the smoke out the bottom instead of the stack. Even a blow into the stack hasn't helped. I'm sure it's an alignment issue.

I have spoken to Jeff @ JDS Ltd and assured me he has a good "Swoosh" soundfile for the 6200. Here's a video of a 3rd Rail PS2 conversion he did. He isn't cheap, but sure does good work.

Gilly, is that a PS/2 conversion? Also, it has to be a sound file that I can get, I'm not planning on paying for a conversion that I would rather do myself.
Gilly, is that a PS/2 conversion?
To the best of my knowledge, yes it is. If I had to guess it's probably the sound file from 30-1395-1. I'm 99% sure it's from the RailKing Imperial version. There is an outside possibility it's from the PS3 version. Your best bet would be to give Jeff a call. I would think if you've already done the PS-2 upgrade, you should be able to work something out.

That is a PS/2 number, I downloaded the file. I'm going to load it into a board on my test set and see what it sounds like. I'm not sure I saw that one, I was finding the bantam one and the PS/1 models before.
I know that the PS/3 one has the correct sounds, but I'd have to round up the connectors and cables in order to use that one.
