Legnth needed for a run around track. | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Gents,

What is the minimum length needed for a run around track? I am planning a switching area 18 feet by 8 feet "L" shaped. To run around ones train is not do-able. But I think being able to run around the longest car I would have on the layout should be sufficient. Your thoughts please. Track is Gargraves with 0-100" (#5) turnouts.

Yes, longest car or two cars off of the yard lead. Perhaps two in different locations.

I liked this for an operations yard design reference.
