Lets see your favorite postwar locomotive or locomotives

sorry, no pics because everything's in storage   But I love my early model 2026 steamer and my SF F3 AB of course.  Would like to pick up a 2046 to go with my larger postwar cars and upgrade the F3 to a dual motor model (somehow managed to get the one single motored version they made; boy was I upset with myself when I tried to pull my 2500 series cars!)

 

Were you looking just for steam locomotives, or any postwar engines? I ask because it appears a moderator has edited your original post, so I cannot be sure what the original request was at this point.

I couldn't possibly pick one favorite.  It would be like picking a favorite child.

    My favorite Post War Engine is not a Steamer, it's the Northern Pacific GP7/GP9 that was supplied to NP by the Union Switch & Signal right here in Swissvale, Pa in the original Pittsburgh Steelers Black, Gold with red trim line colors.  I just purchased the GP9 Legacy version of this Engine less than a month ago, will run her the 1st time on the next Christmas layout.

 Here is a 2026 that my older daughter found at a thrift store and gave to me for Christmas 2013.  It runs great.

 

 

So our younger daughter had to get in the act and found this 244 at a yard sale this summer.  It cleaned up quickly and runs like a champ.  I do need to get a tender.

 

 

 

Here is a 2035 I just purchased from a Forum member.  It needs some work but looks good.

 

My Christmas present 671 from a boxed set I found at a local hobby shop. Had a 2020 as a child and couldn't pass this set up.

I did not have an opportunity to take photos before my sets were placed in storage. My favorite sets are the early postwar gray 221/221T w/blue & silver passenger cars and my black 221/221W freight set.  

I don't have a photo but it has to be the 2035 that I received as a holiday gift 64 years ago. It's still a great runner.

Nice 2340 Andrew! Yes, the 2360 I have is restored.  Its an older restoration that's held up nicely!

This is my favourite. I just refurbished the motor, I am running her to death!

I am surprised no one has thrown out the Lionel 773. I have one too, but it isn't my favorite. It seems to be for a lot of folks though. My Dad's old 2025 is mine. Obviously for sentimental reasons. All my stuff is boxed up, so no pics. I have nearly all locos, but only the 2025 takes me back to my parents and lost childhood. Falling asleep in my onsie outfit  while watching the 2025 go around the tree. Makes me cry and smile at the same time. I can still feel the tight fit of that 1 piece Winnie the Pooh suit with plastic footsies.

For steamers its the 726 and 2046 but I am a big NW2 fan. The are smooth runners and the later die cast frame engines pull well.

dang it Andy! quit giving me ideas! the projects are starting to back up now.......need to gather up a couple more of those NKP tenders, and I've had this idea for a six drivered 666.....

Andy, I always like seeing those shots of your locos.  Such nice work.  Painting really brings out the detail that the Marx engineers put into them, doesn't it?

I've been looking for a clean 221, they're hard to find in decent shape these days. Yours looks good!

and I've been looking for a beat up one. found one on the bay, within 15 miles of me, nice a rusty, and got outbid when the power went off due to a storm...

The engines are somewhat hard to find in nice condition yes, but the tenders……almost impossible.
