It's kind of interesting that as much as I see and hear a lot of word about catastrophic train wrecks in the real world, which seem to be getting quite the buzz recently, we seldom get good looks at any accidents that happen right in our own little worlds...

Being a member of my 4-H train club, with a lot of young, inexperienced engineers, we have plenty of fast-paced derailments, switch jumps, and even the occasional rear ender's with buckling of multi-car trains.

Whether it's a minor derailment or a big-scale collision, I think it would be interesting to see what kind of wrecks may or may not pop up on your layouts~

Here's one of my few wrecks. A coupler let go on the freight train, unnoticed (I was running ten trains at the time and had a room full of guests) leaving part of the consist behind near the tunnel's mouth, and the FM ran right around and bumped into its own caboose (middle track).

Do planned accidents count?

I could only do a recreation of the accident I had as I was too busy working on adjusting my subway station to record what was happening. The subway platform I was working on had to come as close to the subway car as possible thus having a more realistic "gap" between platform and car. I guess I got too close as the subway car hit the edge of the platform and as a result all my passenger figures went flying in all directions. Now I know about how close I can adjust things before I run into problems.

This accident happened in 2006 on my Christmas Layout when I was trying to fix something behind the tree.  The tree was not stable and came crashing down onto the layout.   It caused several passenger cars to derail and caused operations to halt for awhile until I got it cleaned up!  There is train underneath the tree which you can't see in this photo.
