Lighting a Suspension Bridge (Problem Solved 2-19-13)

They are doing some really cool things with lighting the SanFrancisco Bay Bridge. I read about in a Magazine. Programable LEDs on all the supporting wires.

You ask me about this a few years ago and I had forgot to catch you up.  Back when we discussed this project, I was talking with Shelley over at Evans Designs and she was in the middle of engineering LED string lights with someone in China.  Well Evan Designs now have string lights that are made with LED's in white or multi-colored.  Take a look at there website or call and ask to speak with Shelley and she could help you with this.

You might try an automotive audio/video/detail shop.  I was in one yesterday and they had a display of strung LED lights to "dub' you car.  They were very small and nicely spaced.  I thought about them for my layout.  Actually very cool lights.  (My wife would not let me dub the car.)

Jim, Hancock52 and Wood, thanks for your comments. The bridge is a replica of the Newport Bridge in my home State of Rhode Island.

 

Jim, I will contact Evans Designs on Monday and get the string lights. I think that this will work very well.

 

Wood, your  photo is the effect I am trying to achieve. The only difference is I want to also light the towers.

There was a thread on the Old Forum that someone built a great looking bridge and used lights in the walkways and cables I believe. Can't remember whose bridge it was though, maybe some other poster remembers.

I for one like the string-light idea. That said I'm sure Evan Designs system has had our projects in mind from the "get go", so it might not be a bad idea to talk to Shelley.

I agree Mario. Shelley is on my call list for Monday.

Micro-Mark also has some new string lighting options I believe.

I spoke to Shelley today from Evans Design and that have exactly what I need. Their string lights come in a 26" length with the lights spaced at 1 1/8".
