What is Lion Chief and how does it differ from regular Lionel O Gauge?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
There are two levels of LionChief: LionChief and LionChief Plus.
Essentially it is Command Control for Conventional people. The trains in both systems are designed to run at 18Volts AC or DC. Each loco comes with its very own Remote that only works with that engine.
Junior brings his engine and remote to Grandpa's or to a show, and as long as there's 18v, he can join in the fun. Add more engines, and he and his friends can run all at once with no fancy wiring required.
LionChief Plus also adds Electro-Couplers and allows for Conventional operation too!

LC+ also offers fan driven, synchronized smoke, flickering firebox, superb sound, LED lighting and impeccable speed control (that I think may be even a bit BETTER than PS2/PS3!).
I will not re answer the question as the answer from above is spot on, but what I will tell you is Lionel's Lion Chief is really a cool way of operating ones locomotives on any layout, anywhere so long as there is that magic 18 number.
Most sets by Lionel today incorporate this system and when I say it sells, it does. My train store sells these sets allot.
Nice system.
