Can you operate Lionchief engines on a Legacy system?

No.
I am not sure if you are looking to run a Lionchief locomotive alongside Legacy or to control it with the Legacy remote controller. The Lionchief, or in my case, the Flyerchief can be operated along with Legacy on a Legacy layout, but the Flyerchief requires its own Flyerchief remote or the Lionchief Universal remote for its operation.

You are correct in that statement. Newest Legacy engines have Bluetooth can operate via Bluetooth enabled smart device with the Lionel App. These Legacy engine just started coming out this year starting with the first brass hybrid.
Thanks to all the reply’s. I have a much better handle on the controlling now.
It is interesting that it may be possible to run both types of engines via Bluetooth.
The new Legacy locomotives from the last year have BT, prior ones do not.
Why cant you just run the Legacy engine via the Legacy remote, and the Lionchief engine with the Lionchief remote? Or even one or both BT....
You are absolutely correct. I am just trying to figure out I am going to format the operating systems.
thsnks for your reply
Just FYI, in his LCCA Notch 6 interview Howard Hitchcock alluded to a Lionel development project that would attempt to tie together TMCC/Legacy/Lionchief by some sort of bridge hardware that translates Bluetooth or similar standard transmissions into the other system's commands so "no loco is left behind." He said he wasn't sure it could be fully implemented, but they were going to try to come up with a new platform that could speak with previous loco protocols, so to speak . He stated that eventually it will be impractical to manufacture cab-2s because parts won't be available, so they are planning for that future.
