Comes with a special edition universal remote in gold color. No electrocouplers or speed control, but some cute, if unprototypical sound effects about Mr. Stanford . After subtracting the cost of the universal remote, cost thus is about $230 per loco which come as a set from Lionel via Charles Ro for about $500 for both. Couldn't be easier to set up and operate. Put batteries in the remote. Loco on the track. Press button to link loco to "1" Repeat for "2". These are postwar style locos (albeit can motors) with command control, and works for me.

Nice review Matt. Thanks. Recommend Matt's 15 minutes YouTube video for those interested in more about these locos.

Thank you! I tried to get the basic gist of the details and focus mainly on the operation of the set.
I have a set, too. Very nice! Glad I sprang for it. I got the two matching Centennial boxcars, as well. They add to the effect.
Nice! Initial reviews were not so good on the smoke units of the 119. Glad to see some in action!
Don't know about the smoke units as I never use them, particularly in the midst of an epidemic of fatal respiratory disease. Important to turn them off if you're not going to use them. They come set in the "on" position and using them that way without smoke fluid would damage the units.
Both my engines have working smoke units.
For those interested, we have two sets remaining....$489 plus shipping

Thanks,
That smoke stack though...!

Thanks for starting the thread. I really enjoy the Lionel 5 star general type locos, lots of fun! I rarely ever use the smoke feature, I turn it off on just about every engine I have that I have bought, right out of the box. I do have two smokers, that I will run occasionally. The health issues are another reason to limit the smoke use.
I noticed that there is no cab hence no cab detail. Has anyone fitted any detail onto theirs?
I just ordered mine plus the overton passenger cars.
A good clean fun train. Looking forward to running them,
I really liked MTH version but to much for my wallet. These are priced right.
