All LC and LC+ comes with a dedicated remote.  The Universal Remote is a separate sale item.

So - are you saying if I purchase ANY LC and/or LC+ locomotives EACH locomotive comes with a remote specific to that locomotive? So I'd end up with a lot of remotes! Or, could I purchase the universal LC+ remote (6-83071) and not use all the other locomotive-specific remotes?

If this is the case, what a mess!

Wonder if I could just skip using the universal remote (6-83071) and run the LC+ locomotive(s) using the MTH DCS Remote Control Set (50-1001) in conjunction with the MTH AIU set?

Also comes with Bluetooth capable feature

1) Yes on how the LC/LC+ Universal remotes are packaged.  You get one engine specific remote with each engine.  The Universal Remote can replace any 3 different remotes at one time.  If you have more than 3, then you can't pair them up simultaneously to one Universal remote.  It is pretty easy to pair them up though, so this isn't really a big deal - assuming you don't want to try running more than 3 at one time.

2) The 50-1001 is the MTH remote/TIU combination.  The AIU has nothing to do with running an engine (any engine - it's basically a way to use the remote to trigger things that traditionally have a mechanical switch to control them - turnouts or accessories).  It will not do anything for the limited set of engine control features you gain by using a LC+ remote. You could control the LC+ engine you are talking about on a TIU variable channel (but not any regular (non "+") LC engines, since they don't respond to conventional control - they NEED the remote to run).  You would only have the regular traditional controls of speed/direction (controlling track voltage via the remote on the variable channel) along with horn/whistle and bell.

I guess you can't please everyone.  MTH TIU will not be able to run LC but can run LC+ in conventional using the variable outputs.  There is no path to command control for LC and LC+ using MTH equipment. As also stated the BlueTooth route is an option but you've already vetoed that.

Leave the dedicated remote in the box and buy the $50 Universal Remote if that's what you want to do.

You can purchase a pre-owned tablet as the Bluetooth app is now available for android and iOS.

I like to run Lionchief. I would pay real $$$ for a controller like legacy to control my kingdom.
