The motor on this model 150 electric locomotive that I purchased on eBay has a strange, perhaps homemade, configuration for the brushes -- soldered on to copper springs mounted outside the brush plate (photos 1 & 2).20240511_10170820240511_101926

The motor does run, but the setup looks rather unreliable.  I believe this is an early type of motor and brushplate, perhaps circa 1918.  Is that true?  Are the correct brushes and springs available if I need to replace them?  Should I leave well enough alone for now and just run it with the present setup?
