Wondering if anyone ever had the bearing problem fixed on the lionel Rock Island Line 4-8-4 and how much did it cost to have done thanks

@RZy, I sure did have it fixed but many years ago. Bought an NOS 18003 and took it immediately to my local shop (Illiana Short Lines) and had it fixed,
parts & labor - 20 years ago, cost about $22.00, no shipping involved, they were close by.
I seem to recall that several years ago Jim Barrett - who formerly wrote 'In the Backshop' articles about repairs in 0 Gauge magazine - did an article about repairing this particular issue in this specific engine. Perhaps it would be of assistance to you if you were able to locate THAT article.
Good Luck!
The job is not difficult to do but must get the right parts (bushings, washers and bearings)! I don't have the correct part numbers handy since my hard drive crash. Search the forum for posts on how to do it and what parts to use. You can do it yourself and you will love the results.

Yes, I should have mentioned, I included the Barrett articles when I left my 18003 for repairs.
Anyone have the link to the article?
I did mine. I think this thread has a link to the article.
Regarding Jim Barrett's article, although I no longer have the magazine itself I've located a piece of paper on which I'd written down that in the June 1999 (Run 166) issue Jim wrote the 1st of two articles about repairs to the Rock Island 4-8-4, followed by a 2nd article in the April 2000 (Run 172) issue. If I recall correctly, among other things the latter dealt with erroneous part numbers for bearings that he'd discovered. So if anyone has those issues of 0 Gauge magazine perhaps you could provide link(s) to the article for one and all to read.
RZy - Did you ever get a lead on those 2 Jim Barrett articles?

Yep, on page 99 of Run 166. If you have a Digital Subscription, you have all of the issues available in electronic form. Providing a link won't do any good for someone that doesn't have the digital subscription.
