You can for better smoke however a few drops of fluid on the bulb will work too.
I did the conversion on two of my postwar engines, a 736 and a 681. They can be returned to original if desired. I bought the kits on EBAY. They smoke much better now. Here is the #681 in action.

The liquid downgrade kits on eBay(or anywhere, for that matter) won't work on the 726 that @Bob is cool! asking about. He needs the "726S Conversion Kit" first.
