NdeM single-unit Centipede? Now THAT gets my attention. My buying is down to

nearly zero, but this could be nice. I already have a custom-painted (by me) Weaver

NdeM FA-2; they would be complimentary.

But, it'll never see the light of day. Will it?

The L&N NW-2 was on my "probably" list, and now the NW-2's are gone. This surprises me, actually; was it perhaps more a capacity decision, as opposed to a units pre-ordered one?

Lionel is way behind putting out dummy units for their big diesels. There have been a bunch of SD-70s and Dash 9s made recently with two differently numbered powered units, but no dummies.

Here is the news you've been waiting for!!! The countdown to the Volume II Catalog will be live on our website in the next day or two, ticking away to Monday, October 15 at 9:30 AM (Eastern). So just six more days to dream, guess, and bite your nails - soon all will be revealed!

Wow, Chris must be excited.  He's posted this to every Vol2 thread

All in an effort to prevent the fourth thread that appeared LOL

No, I'm referring to the SF AC6000, BNSF ES44AC, KCS ES44AC, Soo SD60, BN SD60, CSX SD60, CN Dash 9, Amtrak Dash 9, BNSF Dash 9, all 5 U-Boats, NS SD70M2, CN SD70M2, FED SD70M2, UP ES44AC, BNSF ES44AC, and KCS ES44AC, among others released in the past two years. No dummies have been offered with any of them.

Aside from offering B-units (sometimes a couple of years later) to F3/F7 powered AA units, I can't really speak to Lionel's track record WRT delivering locomotive dummy units after the fact vs. when they catalog both the dummy and power units together.

OTOH, when they catalog power/dummy together, they tend to deliver both together (within reason), although not in equal quantities.

MTH offered dummy units (i.e., "-3" suffix in the product number) with their diesel powered units a couple of catalogs ago.  But I think they've cut back on that practice in 2012.

I guess the importers prefer that we spend the big bucks if we want to double- or triple-head those long freight trains with modern era diesels!  Dealers -- even the big ones -- often seem challenged WRT to the "right" quantities of dummy units to order.  Nobody wants to carry excess inventory these days.

David

Well, their track record over the past several decades is that they have not been offering dummies in catalogs following release of the powered engines. Back in the MPC days, they occasionally would.

I don't know if there's an effort being made to sell more powered engines or not, as you speculate, but if so it doesn't make sense that they're making fantasy dummies for the heritage units. If they can make them for the fantasy engines, you'd think they could do so for the real ones.
