Lionel 2014 Volume 2 Catalog is Up-What are you ordering?

For one is the Big Boy UP Ca-4 Smoking Caboose. I am thinking about the GP35 Gulf, Mobile and Ohio,

Even with the good prices offered by OGR forum supporters......I want but will pass on the N&W 2-8-8-2. But it's still good news for me!!! Just as the Lionel BTO Big Boy seemed to have some folks selling off older Big Boys (I got one for a deal) maybe the same will happen with the N&W loco!!!

Depending on what my local toy train shop's pricing is,I may add this to the order for the Southern 2601 .

Have been requesting MTH to make these for at least 5-years.  Would prefer the DCS system so could lash-up with other related engines.

So if I get the two will at times lush-up together like they may have been around the NCTM when 52 was here.

I would also much prefer the MTH version, if made, since it would be available with scale wheels, fixed pilots, and full length hand railings.

Great Lionel catalog with lots of new items.  I also thought there would be "NEW" type accessories, not re-makes of old ones.  But I like the LionChief + SW's so will most likely be purchasing one of these for my Army base yard.

maybe one of the LionChief RS-3 (CNW) or GP-20 (BNSF).  Will depend on detail price.  I'm not rich.

Interested in a few things, but will wait until the MTH catalog comes out before making any decisions.

Was curious on the forum's thoughts of how prototypical the following were:

- The Ten Wheeler (for CN) - generic model, or specific to a particular road?

- The UP Aux Water Tender - did the Big Boys run with one with either paint scheme? If so, when?

Also interested in the red/white PC GP30 and the B&M S2.

Thinking about 2-4 of the auto parts boxcars, but then again, those were in the last catalog.

Maybe one of the C&O streamliner pairs, to expand my Williams 18" set--although I'd have to investigate upgrading the WBB interiors so they'd kind-of go together.

The Southern GP30 has been on my wish list for a really long time!!

No the Aux Tenders are a necessity of a steam program in the modern days. When the steam engines regularly ran there were enough water towers around not to have to worry about having to have Aux Tenders

That being  said seeing Aux Tenders on the back of the UP steam engines is pretty much the way most of use see them these days so to us it looks normal

The ten wheeler is based on the New York Central's F12e class. Look at the Fallen Flag website for photos of the prototype.

Only thing that I would be interested in is the new command control gantry crane.

Finally someone is going to make one the can go back and forth under it's own power.

Once I find out the price I'll order one.

I am contemplating ordering the MILW GP-30.

First I need to rob a bank.  Then I would be able to purchase the Erie FA2 diesels.  Wow, $1,550.00 for an ABBA.  They must be a Visionline UP Big Boy in drag.

I like the big boy but unless I team up with you Erie Bob it looks like the UP S2.

Dodged a bullet. No new N&W "consonants" to buy. I already have a JLC Y6b, and that is "good enough" for me. I may find a car or two that suit my fancy, but honestly how many cars to you really need?

The PS1 boxcar is accurate for an N&W B8 from the early 50's. I'll order a bunch. I've been waiting for Lionel to make something I want to buy for 20 years or so. Yippee for Lionel.

Earlier in this thread I posted I would get a PRR S2.  Well, I just listened to the Notch6 episode covering the 2014 v2 catalog and learned something I didn't notice reading the catalog; the S2 is not equipped with the IR sensor.  I guess I assumed all new Legacy engines would have it.  Lionel said they couldn't fit it in plus something about it being a switcher and didn't need it.  That makes the S2 a non-player for me, so I just saved some money.

By the way, that Notch6 episode covered several areas I thought was interesting, including insight into Lionel's thought process on products.

Nothing for myself. 

After the announcement of the two Neil Young Signature Line passenger trains featuring the new generation of 15" aluminum cars, I was so hoping they would do more 15" aluminum passenger cars/sets in different road names.  Of course, they haven't shipped those two sets (Texas Special and PRR) yet, so maybe they'll not build them at all.  That would be sad.  I know there's a lot of preference for the 'testosteronization' () of the Lionel aluminum cars....to 18" and then 21"...but for some of us....the apparently worthless portion of the monied market...who just prefer the esthetics of shorter cars traversing sharper curves (I keep reminding myself of the O3R spin that my O72 minimum curves on my layout are "broad"!...the equivalent of an 18" radius curve in HO!)...it's a bit of a bummer.

So it goes.

The Lionchief Camelback is a low-probability Maybe; nothing wrong with it - but I 

almost certainly will be ordering the Southern High-hood GP30; 90% sure

(80% sure yesterday, so we all know how this ends). 

The GM&O GP30 certainly is my home-town, emotional favorite - with now correct

AAR trucks, to boot - but I have the Atlas black/white GM&O GP35, and the high-nose

changes the GP30 from odd to intimidating. When I saw 2601 at TVRM, I was reminded

of a gigantic bison. Snort.

Coal tower. Looks very sharp.

Ordered the Lionchief Plus NW2 Switcher (B&O livery). I run all conventional but have been eyeing the LC+ line since they came out last year. I like the fact that these run with either the included remote or conventionally.

And many of the excellent reviews here put it over the top. 

That's what I like about the GP30, it has this sort of massive, hulking look about it. It's a different and unique look unlike any other diesel. I like the bison analogy.

Well, I think I will try the Lion chief plus Philadelphia and Reading Camelback. I will wait for the announcement that the NW2 will have a metal frame if it does I will order the B&O

I like the SP/UP 3 pack and a Duluth Boxcar, my son lives in Duluth...Duluth GA.

On the fence with the Extra tender for the Big boy.

That is all I can afford with this catalog.

The bottom line on the price increase and the street prices is what the actual street price increase will be.

The 89' Auto Carriers and the 86' High-Cube Boxcars.

I'm excited about the gantry crane- been wanting a gantry crane for a long time. I might also pick up the saw mill to replace my rather unreliable one and to add the sound effects. I'm very excited about the new plug and play accessories. I have to say that wiring accessories and getting them to run reliably has been a real struggle. I'm really hoping that the move to plug and play will also be followed by a higher standard of quality control. I'm also hoping they come out with plug and play FasTrack switches. I just set up a 4'x12' N scale Kato Unitrack layout with 6 switches and it was all plug and play connectors - no tools required! So much easier than having to strip dozens of wires and deal with little screw connectors. REALLY wish Lionel would go this route. 

They do offer a Command equipped Fastrack switch. It drops right in with no wiring needed. 

Or are you talking about having a quick plug for the wired controller instead of the 4 small screw terminals?

Regarding the plug and play accessories:

Are they adding some sort of circuitry to limit the amount of current going to the device as most accessories don't like a full 18v of track power. 

Is the power level user adjustable beyond just lowering your track power?

Can they still be wired in the traditional fashion for those not using fastrack?

Even though I already have modern repro's of all of the Lionel accessories that I wanted, I do like the P&P idea as the fastrack user can now have a full operating railroad, set up on the floor, with minimal wiring in quick fashion. The last component needed is a P&P signal system. Maybe acquire the z-stuff line of products??

In my opinion, that will keep those enticed who can't commit the space for a permanent layout.

KD, in my opinion those who ordered the Neil Young Signature passenger train sets will see them, but not until next year at the earliest. The production of all Lionel aluminum passenger cars are effected by these same delays.

However, for those who want quality 15" passenger cars now, there is a fairly regular supply on the auction boards of K-Lines. I have recently seen Sante Fe, CZ and PRR sets that are very nice.

Good questions about the voltage and it's adjustments to the accessories?

Looks like you can connect to a non-Fastrack layout with a special add on cable for an additional $10. Was hoping that you could still wire them the old fashioned way also. It isn't clear to me from the catalog, but the more I look at the cable page, the more it looks like you have to purchase and use the cables with the special connectors?

It does look like a good idea for the folks with temp layouts and carpet centrals. Would be pretty easy for them to get up and running that way and to undo it all again for storage until it's time to run it again.
