A co-worker knew I was into Lionel trains so he gave me a box of stuff his Dad, an HO modeler had picked up along the way. Along with some 0-27 track and some basic freight cars were a 2018 2-6-4 loco, a 1055 Texas Special FA and a KW transformer. The transformer is going to need some work, the red whistle handle is broken and the knobs are missing from the handles. It will need a new cord. Does anyone know where I can it serviced here on Long Island and what a total re-build may cost? Does anyone have any info on either of the engines? I believe the 2018 has a manual forward/reverse lever sticking out the top. The FA has a slot for a lever in the roof but no lever, from the bottom of the trucks it appears to have a single motor.

The 2018 has a position E unit. The lever is used to lock it in to forward or reverse. The FA isn't worth a whole lot so it would depend on how much work it would need. yes, one motor.

Nice, and an example of Lionel's fine lower end steamers - sturdy and reliable!
Hi Coach Joe Where on the Island are you?? There are a few good repair shops on the west end and if you are on the east end the volunteers at the Railroad Museum of Long Island should be able to help. Lenny J
Lenny, I'm in Massapequa Park. Nassau Hobby and Trainland aren't too far for me but I didn't know if they did transformer work.
Popi, Thanks for the offer. I'm not sure where you're located so shipping on a KW could add up but I'll keep you in mind.
I did some checking and Nassau Hobbies repairman will do transformers. Lenny
Thanks Lenny. I'll have to take it over there and see if I can get an estimate before I go ahead. I see serviced KWs with a new power cord for around $75.00. So cost could make repair unfeasible.
