Anyone know of a 2025 that came with the shiny Baldwin discs, but a black stack instead of aluminum?  I have only seen the discs with aluminum stack.  The black stack version came on the sintered wheel version.  Or so I have seen.  I have one in mind that has a mix.  It looks original, complete with old tattered boxes. I have never seen one like it. Wondering if it is an odd ball I should jump on.

Thanks

I have an original 675 with baldwin's, and it doesn't have an aluminum smokestack. I've never researched it, though. All I did was clean it up and get it running again.

The 675/2025 are my favorite postwar engines. I have three 2025's that I made up with parts. Two of them were lettered 2025 but didn't have the aluminum stack, and one was in such bad shape that I couldn't be sure of what number it was originally. The 1952 version could be the answer to the stack, but I don't know. With my small cross-section of engines, I'm led to believe that when supplies of smokestacks were used up, others were used. Again, I only have one known original engine that I can really use as an example.

Love the 675/2025 engine. If you haven't made a decision on that engine yet, just take your time and keep a look out for one. I'll bet you can find one at a price you will feel more comfortable with. My my son picked one up at a great antique store that sells lots of old Lionel stuff for under 100 bucks, including the whistle tender.

Here's a page explaining some of the different variations. It does show the Baldwin/black-stack combination.

The early 675s/2025s were great peppery silent running engines.  I believe the motor Lionel used in the early versions was the same one used in the 226E.   I have several 675s and 2025s and one of them, a 675, has the Baldwin Disc drivers with the black stack.  I don't know its lineage so I have no way of knowing if its all original or not.   They are all great silent runners.
