I have a Lionel 212 Alco with a horn that uses a battery. Before I get into this too far, is there a way to wire it to eliminate the battery? Or should I just go with an electronic one? Thanks for any help!

I've built these out with some success - working on some refinements:
Thank you for that, I see me installing a newer electronic version!
Is the original horn working? If so, I'd just stick a Duracell or similar high quality D cell in there and keep chugging! 
If not, I recommend going electronic.
