Are they the same except for the paint? How do you think a 263w tender would go with a grey 225?

They are the same. Seem to be about equal in availability. Lionel used a Gray 263w Vanderbilt tender with it's semi scale 763 Hudson, so it wouldn't be unreasonable behind a 225.
The 225's are one of the locos I don't have. At least I don't think so. I know for sure I don't have a gunmetal grey one. They're pretty. I was wondering if the 263w would be too large looking. I've never seen one in person.
This engine seems to have come with several style of tenders in the years it was offered. The largest was a die cast Coal style tender and II would say that it was physically near the size of the 263w you were proposing. Probably be interesting.
The tin 263w looked too small behind the large 763 in my opinion.
That looks really good. Is your custom tender about the same size as a 263w?
I don't know....I don't have any dimensions on the 263W
Gentlemen,
Borrow one and see how it will look on the consist, it maybe just slightly taller than the engine, which to me is fine. Steamers home grown tender is the coolest I have ever seen behind the 225E Engine. I may have to steal it from him!

Dave, great plan but I have no one to bum one from and I'm the only serious train nut case for a million miles. At least that I know of. I'll figure it out. I think they'd be a great match, at least from pictures.
Thanks
The first tender behind the 225E was the sheet metal tender also pulled by the 1666 with I think a 2245W number. Next came the diecast 2235W. I just bought the sheet metal one before coming down to Florida but don't have the photo down here to show everyone. This thread answers the question I asked in another. The 225E did not normally come with the Vanderbilt tender and Steamers Vanderbilt tender was home built. Beautiful job.

Hi Lew. Hope the winter is going good.
Steamers tender is great. I'm not a purist, I like what looks best to me. I don't care for the looks of the proper tender for the 225e. That's why I thought the 263w would be good.
We'll see eventually.
