Does anyone know if the Lionel 231 Rock Island diesel came with a B unit?

It's pictured on page 32 of the 1961 catalog in set no. 1810 The "Space Age" Gift Pack without a B unit and on page 24 of the 1962 catalog as a separate item with no B unit. Greenberg indicates the 231 also was issued in 1963, but I don't see it in the catalog.
