remove the motor brush plate. using a vice, place some rags or small pieces of wood in such a manner that the stacking or the two protruding stack dowels do not get damaged, making sure to leave room for the armature to pass through. use a punch smaller in diameter then the armature shaft....not one with a pointy end....that may swell the end of the shaft. you can then drive the shaft through the gear....you don't have to beat the hell out of it, its just a bronze gear. you will see it move right away with light taps. to re-install, an arbor press works best, but you can do it with a bench vise and a small socket, making **** doubly sure the gear begins straight and true, every little ways keep checking the straightness of the gear by taking it out of the vise and spinning the armature watching the gear. the finished result should be smooth and spin freely with a tiny bit of shaft end play

Very cool, keep an eye on shaft endplay and the bearing boxes down in the truck for excessive play. There is a ball bearing in the bronze bearing box that sometimes will get all chewed up from the worm shaft. Replace them if you see galling on the little ball bearing. They are available. Also make sure the brush springs and brushes travel well in their bores and there isn't too much tension or grime built up binding the brush and forcing it into the commutator face.
