Hello all,

This tender has been acting strangely lately. It seems as if the motor isn’t spinning fast enough to activate the whistle, even at higher transformer settings. Either that, or the solenoid isn’t touching the contact adequately. What can I do to fix this issue? Video is attached.

The tender, transformer, and loco are integral parts of getting these to work right. Once lubed & cleaned, the tender is designed to be activated while running behind its engine so that enough current is drawn through the transformer rectifier to produce a strong DC lifting & holding voltage. See the Lionel service documentation for a more complete explanation.

Rob, it seems you were correct. Once I put the engine on the track, the whistle worked properly. I did some additional maintenance though, per Bill’s suggestion.
