Body of a 253 clearly for restore only, has been repainted white also as noted missing parts, what is there seems to be in good condition,. Is there any value? Also motor that was jury rigged to the inside is shown in photos, it does run when tested, I did not check the e unit.
Don't believe this was original motor to the 253. Bottom plate says Lionel 027, weren't these post war? Again what is the motor worth?

definitely a Postwar motor, looks like one from a 1615 type switcher.there is one on the bay for $26.
Close but no cigar Dave. That is the 2034/1130 loco motor from Postwar because of the E unit lever facing down. I have at least 4 of them. The 027 nameplates originated in 1937 Prewar. The pre 1937 motors issued in 1936 were "Lionel Jr." Nameplates for all 027 series locos.
well I was right on it being Postwar....
and maybe the e unit lever is pointed down because of the home made bracket.....

Interesting project.
Redo the motor mounts, trip the paint buff the flag holders and paint it a color that you like, paint the wheels, put on new cast headlights, whistle, panthograph and couplers. Just have fun running it and enjoy!
