This one's not about E-units, it's about an apparent mis-match between a pre-war Lionel 259 and the motor I bought it with.  My Lionel 259 (non-e) that I acquired second-hand was running fine then stopped, but still getting power as the light was on.  I took the shell off and discovered it had a manual reverse unit, but as far as I know the 259's didn't come with one, nor was there a slot in the shell for the lever to poke through.  The lever on this unit rolls front-to-back and is located near the cab.  The slot in the shell of my 259e is side-to-side.  I couldn't find a steamer in my pre-war books with a manual reverse that operated this way, yet the motor fits perfectly in the shell.  Any thoughts on another model that this motor might belong to, or could it have come this way from Lionel?

There is one on Trainz.com - Their Description - "Here is a Lionel 259 Tinplate 2-4-2 Steam Locomotive and Tender.. There is a lever in the cab for operating the locomotive in reverse. It features tinplate construction, with copper and brass trim, metal trucks and latch couplers, metal wheels and axles. The locomotive features motor, operating headlight and steam unit."
