Need help how to remove motor from engine body. Step by step. I am new to this. Motor hums when power is applied.

There should be a nut under the rear truck that secures the motor to the body. The front of the motor has two tabs that slide into the steamchest. Remove the nut and the motor should lift out. May have to remove the rear truck.
Do I need to remove the side rods first?

Being as they are held on with a bolt, it would make it a lot easier.

Yes, remove the rear wheel drive rod bolts. Also helps to remove boiler front and then the head light bulb before trying to lift the motor out. Yes, the back truck needs taken off to get at the nut that holds the motor in. Most times I use a rubber band to hold the drive rods at the steam chest as they tend to rub/scratch the boiler body while handling.
